The halal industry, in particular halal food and halal cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It is rightly believed that the setting of unified global standards would accelerate this growth. International trade barriers would be significantly lowered when all halal products follow one set of standards, resulting in the uniformity of compliance requirements and certification procedures.
The United Arab Emirates has become the central point in the exercise of creating global halal standards. The establishment of the Dubai-based International Halal Accreditation Forum in 2016 set off a chain of events and actions that should soon lead to Shariah-compliant standards fully protecting halal consumers and manufacturers.
